About

The inaugural Sanford Integrated Space Stem Cell Orbital Research (ISSCOR) Center Summit brings together leading scientists, clinicians and innovators to explore how space-based research can advance regenerative medicine. With a strong focus on stem cell studies in microgravity, the symposium highlights new insights into neurological disorders and diseases, aiming to uncover novel therapeutic pathways that are difficult to observe on Earth.

Key themes include space medicine, mass spectrometry proteomics and the development of brain organoids as models to better understand disease mechanisms and test potential treatments. By leveraging the unique conditions of space, ISSCOR fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to accelerate the discovery of regenerative therapies and improve outcomes for patients with complex neurological conditions.

Astronauts perform experiments at the direction of, and in tandem with, scientists on the ground. Space-based experiments harness the power of sustained microgravity, which exists only in low-Earth orbit. This lack of gravity mimics the aging process…
